Kickoff specialist

Wikipedia: Kickoff specialist

Kickoff specialist (KOS) is a position in American and Canadian football. Kickoff specialists are members of the special teams. They are responsible to kick the ball in the kickoff. These players tend to have a strong leg, often capable of making touchbacks, but do not have the accuracy or technique required to be a fulltime kicker or punter. Due to modern roster restrictions, most NFL teams do not elect to have a Kickoff Specialist, and instead use their punters or kickers on kickoffs. During the 2008 NFL season, Rhys Lloyd of the Carolina Panthers was the only player employed solely as a Kickoff Specialist, and he led the league in touchbacks that season.
