Kid Dracula is a comical gothic-themed platform game series, and a spinoff to Castlevania. The first 1990 Family Computer game Akumajō Special: Boku Dracula-kun (悪魔城すぺしゃる ぼくドラキュラくん?, lit. "Demon Castle Special: Kid Dracula") was released in Japan only. A reproduction cartridge was eventually re-released with a brand new English translation by RetroZone.com in 2011.[1] Konami released a title for the Game Boy by in 1993 in both regions. It is simultaneously a remake and a sequel of the Famicom version.[1] A version for Mobile Phones was also released in 2006.

Plot

The self-proclaimed Demon Prince, Kid Dracula, has awoken from a long sleep, only to discover that the evil dinosaur-like creature Garamoth has challenged him. Kid Dracula decides to destroy Garamoth himself.

Development

The Japanese name of the Castlevania series is Akumajō Dracula (lit. "Devil's Castle Dracula"), which is also the name used in most spin-offs of the Castlevania games in Japan, cementing a relationship between the two. The game's main antagonist, Garamoth, later appeared as a boss character in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. In Symphony, he dropped his cartoonish appearance and was named Galamoth (due to the ambiguity of Japanese-English transliterations).

Legacy

  • Additionally, Garamoth/Galamoth appears as a boss enemy in Akumajō Drakula X: Nocturn in the Moonlight/Castlevania Symphony of the Night, appearing towards the very top of the reverse castle.
  • Galamoth's relation to Time as well as his conflict with Dracula is further expanded in Castlevania: Judgment where he sends a creature known as Time Reaper to destroy his rival.
