[Irish Cill Dalua, monastic church of Dalua, Dolua, Dá Lua, Da Lúa]
Small market town in Co. Clare on the west bank of the Shannon, site first of an important medieval ecclesiastical centre and later also of Kincora, the fortress of Brian Bórama (Boru). Killaloe's ecclesiastical importance as well as its links with the Dál Cais pre-date Brian. It was also the capital of the mythical Bodb Derg. Part of the ruins were moved from Friar's Island, formerly in the Shannon, when the 1929 hydroelectric project flooded the area. Distinguish from Killaloe, Co. Kilkenny.
