Biography

A contestant on American Idol's second season, Kimberly Caldwell ended up placing seventh in that year's competition, but parlayed her exposure into other opportunities. Born in Katy, TX, in 1982, Caldwell started singing at age five, performing in pageants and working her way up to the Grand Ole Opry and Star Search (where she was a five-time junior vocalist winner) while still a young teen. After taking a break for a few years, Caldwell resumed singing, starting with local venues and eventually appearing on the WB Television Network's Popstars: USA talent program in 2001. She was dismissed from the show's group because the judges believed she would do better as a solo artist. In 2003, she appeared on Idol, showcasing her raspy, powerful vocals with performances of Melissa Etheridge's "Come to My Window" and Martha & the Vandellas' "Nowhere to Run." After her elimination from American Idol, Caldwell posed for the August 2003 issue of Maxim magazine and began working as a host for various TV shows, including Fox Sports' 54321 and Idol Tonight. In addition to her hosting duties, Caldwell ventured into acting, appearing in films like 2007's Wrong Turn 2 and 2008's Memories of Murder, and worked on her debut album with Diane Warren and Randy Jackson. In summer 2008, American Idol season seven winner David Cook asked Caldwell on a date while she was hosting the red carpet coverage of the show's finale. Her debut album was expected later that year. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide

Kimberly Ann Caldwell (born February 25, 1982) is an American singer. She is best known for being a contestant on the second season of American Idol, where she finished in seventh place. She currently works as an entertainment correspondent and hosts various shows on the TV Guide Network, and is presently writing and recording songs for her debut album.[1]

Caldwell first sang publicly at age five in beauty pageants. She was a five-time junior vocalist winner on Star Search, and she also performed at the Grand Ole Opry. In 1995, she sang at the 50th wedding anniversary of former President George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush. Caldwell also appeared on the second and final season of Popstars: USA, where she was rejected from the group and told she would do better as a solo vocalist.

Following her run on the second season of American Idol, Caldwell started working as a correspondent for the entertainment/extreme sports program "54321" on FOX Sports Network. She covered various events and movie premieres for the show before joining her fellow Season 2 Idol finalists on the road for the American Idols LIVE! tour, which played in 44 cities across the United States.

Recent projects

In 2008 Caldwell released two singles, "Fear of Flying" and "Gave Yourself Away," both available for download on iTunes. She also began filming an as-yet-untitled miniseries with John Schneider, as well as hosting a television game show (created by Mark Burnett) called Jingles.[2]

Caldwell will be the host of a new MTV show called P. Diddy's Starmaker, set to premiere in January 2009 on MTV.[3] Both male and female aspiring solo artists will compete against each other through weekly performances, and have the added challenge of living together. The show is produced by Mark Burnett and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs.

On the 2009 New Year's Day edition of Deal Or No Deal, Kimberly was a supporter for her hometown friend Tunde Oyeneyin, who ended up winning $110,000 in cash ($100,000 from Oyeneyin's case, $10,000 from a New Year's side game), and a car valued at $45,190.

On May 21, 2009 Caldwell announced she had just signed a record deal with Vanguard Records and her debut album is due to hit stores sometime in 2010.

Personal life

Caldwell was born in Katy, Texas.[citation needed]

In May 2008, Caldwell was asked out on a date by American Idol winner David Cook while on the red carpet before the show's seventh season finale.[4][5] During a radio interview with XL 106.7 on October 13, 2008, Cook confirmed that he and Kimberly were "still seeing each other."[6] In a November 2008 interview with PEOPLE magazine, Cook said his relationship with Caldwell was a "nice break from the chaos" of post-Idol fame.[7] David debunked rumors of an engagement to Kimberly in a radio interview on December 12, 2008, saying "I've never even been to Tiffany's" (per Star magazine's reports that Cook had gone into the store and purchased a $54,000, 2-carat diamond ring).[8][9]

Rumors of a breakup surfaced on Vote for the Worst.com in early 2009[10], and when asked about it during various radio interviews around that time, Cook simply replied: "There's nothing to talk about."[11] Rumors of Caldwell cheating on Cook were reported by Star magazine; Caldwell responded with a MySpace bulletin saying, "The tabloids got it wrong again. Completely fabricated!"[12]

On January 12, 2009, rumors of a breakup with Cook were confirmed by Caldwell's rep, who stated in In Touch magazine: "Kimberly and David ended their relationship just before the holidays. The couple remain good friends and being very private people, appreciate their privacy at this time.[13]
