King is a Grammy-nominated album from hip hop artist T.I. It was released on March 28, 2006 in the United States.
History
It features guest appearances by Young Buck, Pharrell, Common, B.G., UGK, Jamie Foxx, Young Jeezy, P$C, Governor and Young Dro and production by Just Blaze, Pharrell Williams, Mannie Fresh, Swizz Beatz, DJ Toomp, Travis Barker, Caviar, Jaz Pha, Stanley Jones and Khao.
Chart performance
King debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 selling over 523,407 copies on its first week from the promotion of his debut movie ATL and smash single, "What You Know" and went platinum in one month. It was 1 of 3 rap albums to go platinum in 2006, the other two rap albums being Kingdom Come by Jay-Z and Release Therapy by Ludacris.The album has sold 2 million copies in the United States and was certified double platinum by the RIAA.[1]
The album was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2007 Grammy Awards.
Critical reception
King was well received by critics. It holds a 77% rating on Metacritic, indicating generally favorable to universal acclaim from critics. King received many reviews which praised the album. About.com awarded King with four stars, while Allmusic awarded King with four and a half stars out of five. The lowest score King received was two stars out of five, which was scored by Rolling Stone. Online music magazine Pitchfork placed King at number 147 on their list of top 200 albums of the 2000s.[2]
