Kingston railway station serves Kingston upon Thames in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.
The station, called Kingston Town, opened on 1 July 1863, and at that time was the terminus of the London & South Western Railway branch line from Twickenham.[2]
The station, in Travelcard Zone 6, and all trains serving it are operated by South West Trains. It is 9 miles (14 km) from Waterloo. The typical off-peak service from the station is:
- 6tph (trains per hour) to London Waterloo, of which:
- 2tph to Shepperton
Ed Davey, the MP for Kingston and Surbiton is leading a local campaign to move Kingston and Surbiton stations from Zone 6 to Zone 5.[3]
The station is about to undergo a refurbishment, newsagents and all internal stores have been closed. October 2009. No further details known.
