Kitee (Swedish: Kides) is a town and a municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the North Karelia region. The municipality has a population of 9,471 (31 March 2009)[2] and covers an area of 1,141.32 square kilometres (440.67 sq mi) of which 275.61 km2 (106.41 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 10.94 inhabitants per square kilometre (28.3 /sq mi).

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Soprano Tarja Turunen and Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish are from Kitee.
