Klara Neuffer

Neuffer, Klara or Clara Neuffer, a cousin of the poet E. Mörike and his first love, was the daughter of the pastor of Benningen (later of Bernhausen, near Stuttgart). She was the same age as Mörike, to whom her engagement in 1823 to a curate named Schmid came as a great shock. Mörike's poem ‘Erinnerungen’ (‘Jenes war zum letzten Male’) is addressed to her.
