Kogel mogel
A Kogel Mogel or Gogel Mogel (Yiddish: גוגעל מוגעל) is an egg-based homemade dessert popular in Poland made from egg yolks, sugar, and flavourings such as chocolate or rum. In its classic form it is served slightly chilled or at room temperature.
Preparation
It is a simple dessert to prepare. The dish consists of raw egg yolks beaten until they form a foamy texture, at which point a variety of sweeteners and flavourings are added. A classic single Kogel Mogel portion is made from two egg yolks and three teaspoons of sugar beat into a cream-like dish. Variations can be made by adding chocolate, rum, honey, raisins, whipped cream, or a number of other ingredients based on one's own taste preferences.
History
Its origins go back to 17th-century Jewish communities in Central Europe. The dessert was made popular during the communist era when sweets were rare. It is still eaten in Poland and Polish communities around the world. Kogel Mogel is also used as a home remedy for treating sore throat. Research done in Israel suggests that it may assist in the treatment of sore throats [1].
