Kontiolahti is a municipality of Finland.

It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the North Karelia region. The municipality has a population of 13,575 (30 June 2009)[2] and covers an area of 1,029.83 square kilometres (397.62 sq mi) of which 230.11 km2 (88.85 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 16.97 inhabitants per square kilometre (44.0 /sq mi).

The municipality is unilingually Finnish. The municipality has previously also been known as "Kontiolax" in Swedish documents, but is today referred to as "Kontiolahti" also in Swedish.[6]
