Kopargaon is located at 19°53′N 74°29′E / 19.88°N 74.48°E / 19.88; 74.48.[1] It has an average elevation of 493 metres (1617 feet)

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Kopargaon had a population of 59,996. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Kopargaon has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 62%. In Kopargaon, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.Due to slack market economy a lot of young professionls have migrated to Pune, Nasik, Aurangabad for jobs.

It is situated on the bank of Godavari river. It is 40 km from Manmad railway junction. The famous temple of Sai Baba at Shirdi is 14 km from the town. The present population of the town is about 63,000 inhabitants.

There are three sugar factories around Kopargaon.In addition to this, there is an industrial estate having 52 small scale industries, milk dairy etc. Kopargaon is also the only Railway Station near Shirdi, the famous temple of Sai Baba. Kopargaon is also known for its devotional value for many saints choosing to live around the place on the banks of Godavari.

The economy of the tehsil is driven mainly by agriculture with sugar cane being the major cash crop of the region. Kopargaon has been on the forefront of developments in agriculture with most modern technologies being implied by the farmers to the advantage of the occupation. However, due to increased competition, worsening water resources in the area & mainly due to politics of two leaders the agriculture based economy has been on a steep downfall.Different towns around Kopargaon like Yeola, Sangamner, Sinnar, Vaijapur have flourished due to this. Sangamner market does a turnover of over 150 crores during diwali. These all places have flourished due to the political stability.Kopargaon is also known for its Engineering College ; Sanjivani College of Engineering.

Also for purpose of education there are K.B. Rohmare junior college, Gautam Arts, Sanjivani Commerce and S.S.G.M Science College. As far as basic education concerns S G vidyalaya and K. B. P. Vidyalaya are the famous schools for primary education. Kopargaon also has only a girls school, Dr. C. M. Mehta Kanya Vidya mandir. Besides, the city also have Englsih and Urdu medium schools run by private institutions.

The major banks that have branch in the town are 1) Bank of Maharashtra, 2) Bank of Baroda, 3) State Bank of India, 4) Central Bank Of India, 5)The Peoples Coopreative Bank. There is also a local co-operative bank known as Kopargaon people co-operative bank. Besides having many medium to small credit co-operative societies. Courts: It has CJJD, CJSD, & ADJ.

Kopargaon is Vidhansabha constituency in Maharashtra. The new reformed constituency is called 219 Kopargaon. For 2009 state assembly elections there are about 214865 voters.
