Asian Mythology: Śāktism

With the worship of Śiva (See Śiva, See Śaivism), and Viṣṇu (See Viṣṇu, Vaiṣṇava), Saktism—worship of the Goddess (See Devī) or śakti (See śakti) as the supreme deity or as the consort of Viṣṇu or especially Śiva—is at the center of Hinduism (See Hinduism entries), in particular the branch of Hinduism called Tantrism (See Tantrism). śaktism has roots in the pre-Aryan (See Aryans) Indus Valley civilization (See Indus Valley Mythology). In Tantric imagery there is the tradition of the union of Śiva and śakti as the Absolute.
