Kuban River

Kuban River (Russian: Куба́нь, pronounced [kuˈbanʲ]; Adyghe: Псыж, Psyzh) is a river in Russia, in the North Caucasus region. It flows through the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, Stavropol Krai, Krasnodar Krai, and the Republic of Adygea.

The Kuban, known to Herodotus as Hypanis, flows 870 km north and west from its source near Mount Elbrus in the Caucasus Mountains, eventually reaching the Temryuk Bay of the Sea of Azov. The area of its drainage basin is 57,900 km². It is navigable along most of its length.

Cities and towns along the Kuban are Karachayevsk, Cherkessk, Nevinnomyssk, Armavir, Ust-Labinsk, Krasnodar and Temryuk. Slavyansk-na-Kubani is actually not on the Kuban River, but on the Protoka River.
