Kyocera Wireless Corporation (KWC) is a manufacturer of mobile telephones for CDMA networks and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kyocera Corporation that was formed in February 2000 when Kyocera acquired QUALCOMM's San Diego, California-based terrestrial handset division. It produces mobile phones, cellular routers, and Mobile PC Cards for markets in North America, South America, Australia, and New Zealand.

In 2003, Kyocera Wireless India (KWI), based in Bangalore, was established as a fully owned subsidiary of Kyocera Wireless Corp, expanding Kyocera's reach into India's CDMA markets.

In early 2008, they acquired Sanyo mobile phones for $375 Million. On April 1, 2008, they merged forming Kyocera-Sanyo making them the sixth-largest cell phone company. They also announced that they are entering the GSM handset market. Kyocera intends to sell Sanyo-branded phones till at least 2011. On January 30, 2009, Kyocera announced that they will consolidate both of their U.S. handset groups, Kyocera Wireless Corp. and Kyocera Sanyo Telecom into one. On April 1, 2009, a year after the merger, they officially changed Kyocera Sanyo Telecom to Kyocera Communications (KCI) and moved all operations to their San Diego U.S. headquarters.[1]
