Enfant et les sortilèges, L' (Eng. title The Spellbound Child).Lyric fantasy in two parts with choreography by Balanchine, libretto by Colette, and music by Ravel. Premiered 21 Mar. 1925 at Monte Carlo. It tells the story of a destructive child who is attacked by the toys, animals, and wildlife he has abused. Balanchine created choreography for the entire opera in 1946, again in 1975 in New York, and in 1981 for National Education Television. Descombey staged it in Paris, 1960, and Charrat in Vienna, 1964. Kylián choreographed a dance of the same title to Ravel's score in 1984.
