Léon Azéma
(1888–1978)
French architect. With Louis-Hippolyte Boileau (1878–1948) and Jacques Carlu (1890–1976) he designed the Palais de Chaillot, Paris (completed 1937), in a monumental stripped Classical style. Among other works the forbidding Ossuary at Douaumont (1923–7), by Azéma and others, containing the bones of unidentifiable dead at Verdun in the 1914–18 war, and his solo design for the Church of St-Antoine de Padoue, Paris (1933–6), may be cited.
