Tendre, La Carte de. Centrepiece of the first volume of Madeleine de Scudéry's novel, Clélie. The page unfolds to reveal the engraved map of a land called Tenderness. Scudéry's heroine presents the map as teaching the ways to win or lose a woman's heart. The carte inspired numerous authors to invent allegorical maps.
