Biography

La Scala was formed by singer/guitarist Balthazar de Ley after stints in Menthol and Hum. He added drummer Joshua Lohr, a former member of the Dirty Things, bassist Ryan Jewel, and guitarist Kirk McMahon, and the band made its debut at the Empty Bottle in Chicago in early 2007. The group's music reflected de Ley's mixed French and American heritage. La Scala recorded a debut EP, The Harlequin, which was released as a combination vinyl seven-inch and CD by Highwheel Records on February 26, 2008. ~ William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide
