Plot
This Korean film offers both a parody of class consciousness and an oddball love story. It is set in a lower middle class part of Seoul and takes place during the last few months before the 1988 Olympics. Most of the story takes place in a comic-book shop that is open 24 hours a day. It is frequented by an eccentric group of patrons who tend to live there rent free. The place is run by Madam, a quiet, beautiful woman. Madam has a talent for conversing and dealing with all kinds of people with grace and charm. She is, however, rattled when the attractive gangster Dongpal shows up. He is running from the law. Dongpal is interested in Madam and brutally rapes her. After the rape, she totally ignores her. The uncomprehending Dongpal becomes obsessed with her and follows her everywhere. He begins harassing the other members in the little book store group until he finally begins to fit in. ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
