Oh, Lady! Lady!! (1918), a musical comedy by Guy Bolton (book),P. G. Wodehouse (book, lyrics), Jerome Kern (music). [ Princess Theatre, 219 perf.] Just before Willoughby Finch (Carl Randall) is to marry Mollie Farrington (Vivienne Segal), the Farrington jewels are stolen. This presents an awkward situation for Willoughby, since it is known that his valet, Spike (Edward Abeles), was once a jewel thief. However, Spike proves loyal to his master and recovers the jewels, allowing the wedding to proceed. Notable songs: Greenwich Village; Not Yet; When the Ships Come Home; Bill (dropped before the New York opening). Although its authors considered this the best of F. Ray Comstock and William Elliot's Princess Theatre series, critics and the public disagreed, so the trio broke up and the series soon came to an end.
