Review

Lafayette Harris is a new name on the jazz horizon, but if his debut album is any indication, he's going to be a major player. Harris' piano work has rhythmic vitality and harmonic depth; he doesn't present flashy lines or rapid-fire tempos, but displays fine phrasing, passionate flair and extensive knowledge of jazz and pop melodies. Every number is done with conviction, and Harris gets fine assistance from resolute bassist Lonnie Plaxico and drummer Cindy Blackman. Tenor saxophonist Don Braden and trumpeter Terrell Stafford are featured on seven tracks. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
