Lahar is a city and a nagar panchayat in Bhind district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
Geography
Lahar is located at 24°54′N 79°01′E / 24.9°N 79.02°E[1]. It has an average elevation of 275 metres (902 feet). Lahar had a population of 59,305; males consist of 30,548 and females consist of 20,515. Facilities in Lahar include a stadium named Indira Gandhi. This is a very beautiful place to live.
The history of Lahar can be traced back to the Mahabharat era. It is said that the famous Lakchhagrih, (a palace built up of Lakh, which is a highly inflammable material), was built by the Kauravas for Pandavas at the end of their exile. As the legend goes, Kaurav wanted to kill Pandavas by buring them inside the Lakchhagrih. One can still find the pieces of charred lakh in the outskirts of town. Archeologists should excavate the area and preserve the site. It could turn out to be a place of huge historical and cultural significance. Nearest Railway Station are Gwalior ,Bhind ,Jhansi .
Demographics
As of 2001[update] India census[2], Lahar. Dr.Govind Singh Kushwah is the great political leader from Lahar. He has been elected five times from Lahar to the Legislative Assembly of Madhya Pradesh. He is the continuous Member of Legislative Assembly of Madhya Pradesh since 1989 from Lahar. He has created a new identity of Lahar in Madhya Pradesh and also in India. Before his era, the Lahar was a highly backward place and peoples were struggling to survive in very insecure circumstances due to dacoit problem at region (Lahar is a part of Chambal Region, Chambal Region is known for its dacoits in India). At present Lahar is known for Dr.Govind Singh in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
