Hongze Lake (Chinese: 洪澤湖; pinyin: Hóngzé Hú) is located in Jiangsu Province, China and is encompassed by the cities Suqian and Huai'an. Lake Hongze is the fourth largest freshwater lake in China. Lake Hongze has quadrupled in size since the 1100s when the Yellow River changed its course. Heavy sendiment from the Yellow River blocked the course of the Huai River and diverted water from the Huai toward the lake.
