Lalenbuch

Lalenbuch [Lalebuch], Das, a Volksbuch printed in 1597. It is a collection of Schwänke (see Schwank) centred on the inhabitants of the fictitious town of Lalenburg, and exists in an alternative form as Die Schildbürger (1598). A later version (1603) is entitled Der Grillenvertreiber. An illustrated edition by S. Ertz appeared in 1982.
