The Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF) helps people win the battle against cancer. Founded by seven-time Tour de France cycling champion Lance Armstrong during his own cancer treatment in 1997, the LAF assists cancer patients and their loved ones with the physical, psychological, and social aspects of living with and recovering from the disease. The foundation focuses on education, community programs, national advocacy, and scientific and clinical research. Also, its Peloton Project raises funds and awareness for the LAF with the help of volunteers, cyclists, and cancer survivors in their local communities. In 2009 the LAF took its fight against cancer global with the Livestrong Global Cancer Campaign.
