History

Lane Crawford was originally a ship chandler, established 1850 in Hong Kong by Scotsmen Thomas Ash Lane and Ninian Crawford. This heritage is remembered in the various nautical accent pieces found in Lane Crawford stores.

T.A. Lane was one of the purchasers in 1846 of the only Chinese junk, Keying, to visit the USA and England. The original Lane Crawford flagship store was located on Des Voeux Road Central in Central, Hong Kong. It was demolished during the 1970s, making way for The Landmark, and the flagship store was moved to 70 Queen's Road Central, Central. The flagship store was moved once again in 2004 to the IFC Mall in the International Finance Centre.

From 1960 to 1964, Lane Crawford and Dairy Farm operated merged supermarket operations as Dairy Lane. This joint operation ends after Dairy Farm acquired Wellcome and bought the remaining share of the business.[1] During the 1990s, the Lane Crawford store at Times Square, Causeway Bay was named Lane Crawford express and was aimed at the young and trendy shoppers. Lane Crawford express was subsequently closed and became the location for the current Causeway Bay store.
