Langensalza, a town in the former Prussian province of Saxony (Provinz Sachsen), near which in the war of 1866 (see Deutscher Krieg) the Hanoverian forces first won a victory (27 June) over the Prussians, but were then encircled by superior forces; on 29 June they capitulated.
