US Military Dictionary: Langley Aeronautical Laboratory

The first civilian aeronautics laboratory in the United States. Established in 1917 at Langley Field in Hampton, Virginia, it operated under the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics until 1958, when it was renamed the NASA Langley Research Center.

The first pressurized wind tunnel in the world, the Variable Density Tunnel, was built and first used at Langley in 1922.
