History
The manor of Penkneth was one of the 17 Antiqua maneria of the Duchy of Cornwall.
Institutions
The parish church is dedicated to St Brevita or Bryvyth, a saint of whom nothing is known. The building was originally cruciform but was enlarged in the 15th century by the addition of a magnificent tower and the south aisle. The churches of Lostwithiel and Luxulyan were originally chapelries dependent on Lanlivery.[1] "One of the great churches of Cornwall" according to John Betjeman.[2]
Lanlivery is the home of Churchtown, a holiday centre for adults and children with physical and learning disabilities: the centre is operated by the national charity Vitalise.
