A large family car, is a European automobile classification larger than a small family car and smaller than an executive car. This class is also known as D-segment. It is generally equivalent to a non-luxury mid-size car in North America and Australia, though mid-size cars are often the same size or larger than executive cars (i.e. mid-luxury cars).
A multi-purpose vehicle based on a large family car is called a large MPV.
Similarly-priced models in the D-segment from luxury car manufacturers are called compact executive cars.
