Larry Christopher Allen, Sr. (born on November 27, 1971 in Los Angeles, California) is an American football player who currently plays offensive guard for the San Francisco 49ers of the NFL. Allen was released from the Dallas Cowboys in March 2006 after 12 years with the organization and quickly agreed to terms with the arch-rival 49ers. He was drafted by the Cowboys in the 2nd round (46th overall) in the 1994 NFL Draft, making him the first NFL player ever selected out of Sonoma State University. Prior to going to Sonoma State he attended Butte College in Oroville, California, and graduated high school in Napa, California. Allen played his entire career with the Cowboys wearing #73 but changed to #71 upon signing with San Francisco in memory of former teammate and friend Mark Tuinei.
At 6ft-3in and 326 lb, Allen may be physically the strongest man to have ever played in the NFL.[1] His weightroom highlights include a solo bench press of 800 pounds and a partial squat of 900 lb. [1]. His strength combined with his noted on-field aggressiveness have made Allen one of the best offensive linemen in the league's history.
While his strength is phenomenal, Allen burst onto the scene with the Cowboys by using his speed in one notable instance. In late 1994, Allen made his first NFL start on Monday night against the New Orleans Saints. Early in the game, Saints cornerback Robert Massey picked off a Troy Aikman pass at the Saints 35-yard line and appeared on his way to an easy return touchdown. Allen, all 326 pounds of him, ran the 210-lb. Massey down from behind and prevented him from scoring.
Allen was a member of the Dallas Cowboys' Super Bowl champion team in 1995, has been named All-Pro eight times and has represented the NFC in the Pro Bowl in eleven of his twelve seasons to date; at one point playing seven consecutive Pro Bowls before an ankle injury in 2002.
He is one of only three players in NFL history to have played three different Offensive Line positions in the Pro Bowl, playing Right Guard, Left Guard and Left Tackle. Allen played in more Pro Bowls than any other Dallas Cowboys offensive player. Bob Lilly is the only Cowboy with more Pro Bowl appearances. Allen provided much needed blocking during Emmitt Smith's run to become the leading rusher in NFL history.
He also won the ESPN's "Strongest Man Award" during the Pro Bowl weekend in 2006 by completing 43 reps of 225 lbs. He successfully defended that title at the 2007 Pro Bowl. He used to live in Coppell, TX and now lives in Danville, CA.
