Biography

Character actor Larry Drake has worked steadily on television and in feature films since making his feature-film debut in This Stuff'll Kill You (1971). Though the burly actor has played roles ranging from rednecks to murderous doctors (Dr. Giggles) to detectives (Power 98), Drake is best remembered for his convincing portrait of gentle, mentally retarded Benny on the NBC television series L.A. Law (1986-1994). ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide

Larry Drake (born February 21, 1950) is an American actor.

Drake was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of Lorraine, a homemaker, and Raymond Drake, a drafting engineer for an oil company.[1] Drake is renowned for his portrayal of developmentally disabled Benny Stulwicz on the television show L.A. Law from 1987 until the show's end in 1994, for which he won two consecutive Emmy Awards (1988, 1989). He also came back to the part of Benny in L.A. Law: The Movie, a "reunion" movie aired on NBC in 2002.

Drake also appeared in Time Quest, Dark Asylum, Paranoid, Bean, Overnight Delivery, The Beast, The Journey of August King, Murder in New Hampshire, Dr. Giggles, Darkman, Darkman II: The Return of Durant, The Taming of the Shrew (1983), American Pie 2, and Dark Night of the Scarecrow. He was also a regular on the 1998 science-fiction TV show Prey. He also provided the voiceover for Pops on Johnny Bravo. In 2007 he co-starred in the made for TV movie Gryphon, a Sci-Fi Pictures original film.

Larry Drake was married to actress Ruth De Sosa, from 1989[when?] but they divorced in 1991. He married model and horror writer Marina Drujko in October, 2009.[citation needed]

He also appeared on the L.A. Law special of The Weakest Link in May 2002, along with Michele Greene (Abby Perkins), Conchata Ferrell (Susan Bloom) and Sheila Kelley (Gwen Taylor). He also starred in 'Return To Death Row' (as a madman called 'the trasher'). Drake played the role of a nobleman in the short lived "space western" TV series Firefly, created by Joss Whedon of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel fame.
