Review

Latin Grammy Nominees 2003: Latin Pop and Tropical gathers tracks from the contenders in the Latin pop and tropical genres that appear on Universal or one of its subsidiary labels. The collection features two songs from Bacilos, the witty "Mi Primer Millón" and the more laid-back "Caraluna"; Juanes' jazzy "Es Por Ti"; Luis Miguel's romantic "Hasta Que Vuelvas"; and Gisselle's contemporary-sounding "Márchate." The album also spans Molotov's snarky, culture-conscious "Frijolero" and the decidedly smoother sounds of Alexandre Pires' "Todavía" and Olga Tañón's "Asi Es La Vida." While the collection is too scattered to appeal to most serious fans of Latin music, those who follow it casually might find it a good refresher on some of 2003's biggest songs and artists. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
