Lazonby is a village and civil parish in the Lower Eden Valley of Cumbria about 8 miles NNE of Penrith. Not south east as shown on the map.

The village is quite large by local standards and contains the following amenities - 2 pubs, a primary school, fire station, a co-operative supermarket and postoffice, auction mart, swimming pool and campsite [1], railway station (part of the Settle-Carlisle line) and the Bells of Lazonby bakery complex. There is also an independent woooden toy shop, Croglin toys & Designs (www.croglindesigns.co.uk) which is located in the old school (approx. 18th century).

The parish church of St. Nicholas forms a united benefice with churches at nearby Great Salkeld and Kirkoswald.

In recent years many new housing developments have sprung up in the village. The village today is lived in mostly by people who work in either Penrith or Carlisle.

The parish of Lazonby contains no other villages but does include the settlements of Baronwood and Brackenbank. At Low Plains there is a mineral water bottling plant.

Plumpton or Plumpton Wall was a chapelry or township of Lazonby until 1866.

There is currently a scheme up and running called the ''Lazonby Youth group'' on Thursday nights at Lazonby village hall for people aged between 13 and 18.

Kirkoswald Methodist Youth Guild, which is for 11+, have been doing a local pantomime for more than 40 years now in the local village hall. They meet up and do other activities throughout the year, but the pantomime has become somewhat of a local legend and people come from far and wide to see it.

There is a music concert every other year starting in 2008 called LazonbyFest. Featuring local and national bands, it takes place on the first Saturday of July, and its purpose is to raise money for the local school.
