Le bal (English: The Ball) is a 1983 Franco-Algerian film without dialogue directed by Ettore Scola that represents the fifty-year story of the European society by that of a ballroom in France.
It won the 1984 César Award for Best Film ex-æquo (tie) with À nos amours. It also was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, representing Algeria (rather than France).
