Houari, Leïla (b. 1958). Moroccan-born novelist brought up from the age of 7 in Belgium. In Zeida de nulle part (1985) she depicts the identity crisis of an adolescent girl torn between her desire for personal freedom and loyalty to her immigrant parents. Similar cross-cultural themes are explored in a collection of short stories, Quand tu verras la mer … (1988).
