Biography

Born and raised in San Diego, CA, Leah Andreone began her musical career early (at the age of eight), singing with her older sisters' band. By the age of 13 Andreone was writing commercials and jingles, which led her to begin penning her own original songs. After dropping out of college, she began pursuing a record deal as a solo artist while working at a restaurant, all the while honing her act in the clubs of San Diego and Los Angeles. She was able to pass along a demo to some RCA record label execs who dined at her restaurant, signing Andreone exactly 24 hours later, after witnessing a live performance. Her first release, 1996's alterna-pop Veiled, was a major hit in France (along with its single, "It's Alright, It's OK"), which led to an appearance with the inaugural Lilith Fair tour. Hooking up with heavy rock producer Bob Marlette for her next album, 1998's Alchemy, naturally led to a heavier and more varied sound, including cameos by Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and Marilyn Manson/Two/David Lee Roth guitarist John Lowery. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide

Leah Andreone (born 1974) is an American musician from San Diego, California.

Early life and career

Andreone was born and raised in San Diego and attended Helix High School in La Mesa. She became interested in music early in life, finding it an easy way to express emotion. After high school she spent time in Los Angeles, working during the day and singing at night.

Her first album, Veiled, produced by Rick Neigher, was released by RCA in 1996. It produced the hit single "It's Alright, It's Okay" which charted in both the U.S. and Europe. It was introspective whereas her next album, Alchemy, was more sexual and intimate. Andreone's lyrics are often treatises on psychology, reflecting her interest in the subject.

Since Alchemy, Andreone has continued to write and perform. She has collaborated with other artists and writers, such as Billy Steinberg, Kevin Fisher, Rob Hyman, Eric Bazilian, Marti Fredrikson, Charlie Clouser (Nine Inch Nails), John Shanks, David Lowry (Cracker), John Lowery (Marilyn Manson), Kasia Livingston, Kay Hanley (Letters To Cleo), Michelle Lewis and Martha Davis (The Motels) and worked as a producer. She toured with Lilith Fair and is completing a third album.

She has contributed a cover of Carole King's, "I Feel the Earth Move" to the Speed 2: Cruise Control soundtrack. She also released the Veiled era song, "We're Not Alone" to the Women For Women 2 album, from which proceeds went to the National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations. In Auguest 2008, she released a cover to "You Are My Sunshine" on the compilation CD "UndisCOVERed".

In 2006, Leah released an EP of new material entitled UNLABELED - The Demos, which contains a cover of Beyoncé Knowles's "Deja Vu". On September 1, 2009, Leah released a new full length CD entitled Avalanche (written and produced by Leah Andreone and Kevin Fisher). Avalanche also features a duet and co-write with Dan Wilson (Semisonic, Dixie Chicks, etc.). A video for the first single Never Stop Trying has been released.
