Marketing Dictionary: least-effort principle

Theory among advertisers that consumers will make purchases based upon the least amount of effort possible and will tend to buy what is handy. This is one of the underlying theories of point-of-purchase advertising, whereby consumers will make a purchase because they do not have to expend any effort to do so.
