Lecanoromycetes is the largest class of fungi.[1] It belongs to the subdivision Pezizomycotina in the division Ascomycota.[2] The asci (spore-bearing cells) of the Lecanoromycetes most often release spores by rostrate dehiscence.[1] The majority of lichen-forming fungi belong to this class.[1]
