Lechfeld

 

Lechfeld, a plain to the south-east of Augsburg. It was the scene in 955 of a decisive victory won by the Emperor Otto I over the invading Hungarians (Schlacht auf dem Lechfelde), putting an end to their incursions which for half a century had brought slaughter and pillage.

Lechfeld (lĕkh'fĕlt), plain near Augsburg, S Germany, drained by the Lech River. There in 955, King (later Emperor) Otto I defeated the Magyars and stopped their expansion into central Europe.
