Leenaun (Irish An Líonán - the filling pool), sometimes Leenane, is a village in County Galway, Ireland. It is situated beside Killary Harbour (Ireland's only fjord) on the northern edge of Connemara and is on the route of the Western Way Long-distance trail.
Leenaun was the setting for the movie, The Field, and of the play The Beauty Queen of Leenane.
Amenities
The ancient woods at Maam Valley are close to Leenaun. As it the Delphi Valley and Killary Harbour.
On 18 July 2007, following torrential rain, the only bridge running through the village was swept away, cutting the town in half. The bridge was part of the N59 road and had stood there for 182 years.[1] A permenant replacement bridge with increased hydaulic capacity has recently been constructed.
