Plot

The first film role of the late Brandon Lee, this Hong Kong thriller is the story of Brandon (Lee), a hard-working young man who has an unfortunate friendship with Michael (Michael Wong), a gangster who has his eye on Brandon's girlfriend May (Regina Kent). Michael frames Brandon for the murder of one of his rivals, and Brandon is imprisoned. Many years later, Brandon's reunion with May and their son is cut short when Michael kidnaps the mother and child. Brandon must rescue his family and exact revenge on Michael. Although Lee had yet to reach the level of acting demonstrated in The Crow and Rapid Fire, this 1986 film provides a better showcase for his martial arts abilities than his later American films; each film would progressively de-emphasize his skills. ~ Jonathan E. Legacy of Rage (龍在江湖, pinyin: Long Zai jiang hu) is a 1986 Hong Kong action movie starring Brandon Lee in his film debut, Michael Wong, Regina Kent, Chung Lam and a cameo appearance by Bolo Yeung who had appeared in Lee's father Bruce Lee's last film Enter the Dragon. It was directed by Ronny Yu and made in Cantonese. It was later dubbed in English and other languages when released internationally.

This was the only film Lee made in Hong Kong in his short-lived career. Unlike Bruce Lee's films that he made in Hong Kong, this film contains only minor martial arts and mostly has gun fu action sequences in the style of John Woo's heroic bloodshed films.

Synopsis

Brandon Ma (Brandon Lee) is a regular guy with a job and a girlfriend May (Regina Kent). He has two jobs, so he can support his girlfriend and his dream of owning a motorcycle. Brandon's best friend is Michael Wan (Michael Wong), an ambitious and murderous drug dealer. How Brandon and Michael ever became friends is the biggest mystery ever. In any case, Michael also loves May and so he comes up with a plan that will win her for him and get Brandon out of his way. Soon he comes up with a plan using a corrupt police officer named Sharky. (Chung Lam) It seems that the corrupt cop has been using his police connections to dominate the local cocaine trade, so Michael has him killed and uses Brandon as the fall guy. Brandon goes to jail, though he thinks that he will be released soon thanks to the efforts of his good buddy Michael. However after 8 long years Brandon finally gets out of jail and vows revenge on Michael for betraying their friendship and stealing the love of his life. Whilst out of prison he learns that May has had his son. With the help of an inmate he met in prison, Brandon tracks down Michael. Whilst engaging his guards he learns that May is dead. After killing Michael's guards, Brandon confronts and kills Michael. The movie ends with Brandon giving his farewells to his friend (whom he met while in prison and who aided him in fighting Michael's guards) and leaving with his son.
