The lone Legislative Districts of Maguindanao, are the representations of the Province of Maguindanao and the independent city of Cotabato. Maguindanao was part of the representation of Region XII from 1978 to 1984. It first was first granted its own representations in the Regular Batasang Pambansa from 1984 to 1986, where it elected 2 assemblymen at-large. In 1986, it was divided into two legislative districts. In 2007, the 2nd District was renamed as Lone District of Maguindanao and the First District became Lone District of Shariff Kabunsuan and Cotabato City. On July 16, 2008, the Supreme Court voided the creation of Shariff Kabunsuan, has since reverted to the jurisdiction of the province of Maguindanao. The former legislative district of Shariff Kabunsuan-Cotabato City reverts to the designation First Legislative District of Maguindanao-Cotabato City, while the lone district of Maguindanao of 2007-2008 reverts to the designation Second Legislative District of Maguindanao.
