Lem Dobbs (born Lem Kitaj on 24 December 1959 in Oxford, England) is an British-American screenwriter. He is the son of the late painter, R.B. Kitaj. He and his wife, Dana Kraft, have three sons. He is best known for the film The Limey. Dobbs' chosen surname was taken from the character played by Humphrey Bogart in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

In 1979, Dobbs wrote an original screenplay entitled Edward Ford which garnered a great deal of praise; yet, until now, it remains unproduced. Since the 1980s Dobbs has had a number of films based on his original screenplays: Hider in the House, The Hard Way, Kafka, and The Limey. His best-known work is Romancing the Stone, which starred Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. He also was credited as co-writer on Dark City and The Score.

Dobbs has spoken on DVD commentary tracks for his films Dark City and The Limey, and (as a film historian) for the unrelated The Sand Pebbles, Von Ryan's Express, and Double Indemnity (this last due to his personal friendship with the late director Billy Wilder).
