Biography

Pop singer Lene Grawford Nystrom first made it big in the music world in the early '90s as a member of the native Denmark group Aqua. The dance-pop group formed around 1995 with Claus Norreen, Soren Rasted, Rene Dif, and Nystrom. Aqua's debut album, Aquarium, came out in 1997 under the MCA Records label, hitting the charts at number one. Soon Nystrom and her fellow members were being swept along with their first major hit singles, "Barbie Girl" and "Roses Are Red." The songs' popularity crossed over into several countries, including the United States, spreading Aqua's fame as they went.

Lene Grawford Nystrom was born in 1973 in Tonsberg, Norway. Before becoming a singer, Nystrom supported herself by working at a wide variety of jobs, including time as a bartender, a model, and even a television anchorwoman. It was the latter that put her in contact with members of a band that would become Aqua after they invited her into the mix. ~ Charlotte Dillon, All Music Guide
