A company, based at the Monte Carlo Opera, founded by René Blum in 1936 following his split from Colonel de Basil. Massine became artistic director in 1938, at which point the company's name was changed to Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. In 1985 Les Ballets de Monte Carlo was revived under the auspices of Princess Caroline of Monaco. Its repertoire includes works by Balanchine, Childs, and Duato, as well as creations by its artistic director, Jean-Christophe Maillot, and revivals of ballets from the Diaghilev company.
