Les Grandes Chroniques de France

French Literature Companion: Les Grandes Chroniques de France

Grandes Chroniques de France, Les. An unwieldy compilational history of France composed over some 200 years (1250-1450) by a number of different hands, some sections being translated from Latin, some composed in French. It covers France from Troy to 1450. Historically it is unreliable, but its glorification of France and the monarchy is a valuable index of changing attitudes among historians and public.
