Biography

Screenwriter Leslie Bohem specializes in big-budget action thrillers, disaster movies, and horror films, but he has also proven capable of writing quieter scripts, as in the indie drama Twenty Bucks, which he adapted from an unfinished script written by his father Endre Bohem in 1935. Perhaps his tendency toward big, flamboyant scenarios can be traced to his earlier career as a bass player for the rock group Sparks from the late '70s through the late '80s. He also worked with the Gleaming Spires and Bates Motel. As a songwriter, he penned hit songs for artists ranging from Freddy Fender to Jerry Reed. Bohem made his screenwriting debut with Horror House (1989), on which he collaborated with Allyn Warner. Other notable credits include the script for the Sylvester Stallone vehicle Daylight (1996) and the volcanic disaster movie Dante's Peak (1997). ~ Sandra Brennan, All Movie Guide
