Review
Grant King is the artist's artist. His lyrics are crafted to perfection, emotionally resonant and completely honest, whether they speak of loss, love, lust or longing. King tapped the enormous talent pool in the gay community by using four producers on Let Love Out: Rob Costin, Steve Sandberg (who also produced Tom McCormack's Missing), Dan Martin, and Phideaux Xavier (who uses shivering cellos, otherworldly windchimes, mysterious guitar, and inversion vocal effects on a Twilight Zone/phone sex opus, "Ghosts"). He has wisely selected the proper producers for the right tracks, as each of them put their unique stamp on the songs without ever overwhelming King.There's a reason his name is King, and we think he'd be quite comfortable with the crown. King's easy, James Taylor-like charm oozes out of these tracks. Some of his more popular performance pieces are here, including "To Hold and Be Held" and "Your Roses Came Today." His amazing rhythm guitar work drives "Loving Cup" in a manner reminiscent of Lindsey Buckingham's guitar work with Fleetwood Mac.
