Portion of computer letter that is constant for all recipients prior to personalized text being added. It usually constitutes most of the letter body copy, with room for several insertions of the recipient's name or town. Depending on the quality of the printing, it can be difficult for the recipient to discern that his name and so forth were added to a standard letter. laser printers usually do the best job of merging the personalized text with the letter text.
